FOOTGOLF continues to grow as a sport in the country as two of the nation’s top footgolfers, Eleven Kambizi and Beauty Dube, qualified for the prestigious 2026 Federation of International FootGolf World Cup. 

The tournament is scheduled to take place from May 27 to June 7, 2026, in Acapulco, Mexico. 

The qualification news follows Zimbabwe’s successful hosting of the Africa FootGolf Open Championship at Elephant Hills in  

Victoria Falls, which concluded on Tuesday.  

It was an event which saw an influx of international participants, proved to be a major success, with eight Zimbabwean contestants winning silverware across various categories. 

Zimbabwe FootGolf Association president Daniel Kuwengwa expressed delight at the tournament’s execution and the performance of the local players.

“The tournament exceeded expectations,” he said. 

“We had more countries than expected, and the organisation of the event was smooth.” 

The pioneer of the hybrid sport in Zimbabwe also lauded the national team’s outstanding debut on the international stage. 

“The Zimbabweans performed well and matched their international counterparts based in Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Slovenia and Morocco, who are seasoned players,” Kuwengwa stated. 

“This success is highlighted by our senior players, Eleven Kambizi and Beauty Dube, who are now going to the World Cup competitions.” 

Kuwengwa sees the successful hosting as a crucial step in developing the sport across the country. 

“As your president and national executive, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment to the growth and development of footgolf in Zimbabwe.  

“Your participation in the Africa FootGolf Open Championship Tournament has raised the bar and inspired a nation.” 

The Tourism and Hospitality Industry ministry also celebrated the event, emphasising its significance for the nation’s sport tourism profile. 

“Zimbabwe has made history on the continental stage, becoming the first African country to host the Africa FootGolf Open Championship at Elephant Hills in Victoria Falls, an achievement that firmly reinforces the country’s rise as a premier sport tourism destination,” the ministry shared via its official Facebook  

page. 

During the opening ceremony, Tourism and Hospitality Industry deputy minister Tongai Mnangagwa highlighted the government’s strategic focus on leveraging sport  

to elevate Zimbabwe’s tourism visibility. 

The ministry noted that the event had already delivered visible economic benefits, reflected in heightened hotel occupancy, increased demand for Zimbabwean cuisine, and strong participation in tourism and adventure activities around Victoria Falls.
