IN a remarkable upset, Agama FC defeated league leaders N’ombeyaora 1-0, narrowing the gap between the two teams to just one point.

With this victory, Agama now sit on 62 points from 28 matches, while N’ombeyaora remain at 63 points.

Despite the monumental win, Agama head coach Paul Chimalizeni chose humility over celebration.

“We are pleased to secure all three points in what was a challenging match,” he said.

“However, the championship is a marathon and we are focused on going the distance.

“As I’ve said before, there are still 30 points up for grabs, and we are not there yet.”

The pivotal moment came when substitute Emmanuel Chambara beat N’ombeyaora goalkeeper Dean Togara to a high ball to score the only goal of the match.

This sparked jubilant celebrations among the travelling Agama supporters, who were notably more than the home side’s at the venue.

N’ombeyaora’s bench voiced their frustrations with referee Langton Makokova, who had a generally solid performance, but stood firm in his decision, ruling the incident a 50-50 challenge.

As N’ombeyaora attempted to regain control, Agama’s defence held strong, thwarting every attacking move with impressive resolve.

However, tempers flared at the match’s conclusion, leading to chaotic scenes, where Makokova had to be escorted from the pitch by police, pursued by irate N’ombeyaora officials.

The post-match atmosphere turned sour as N’ombeyaora officials confronted the referee over decisions they felt were unjust.

In a stark contrast to his usual demeanour, coach Nesbert Saruchera declined to speak with the media, underscoring his team’s frustration.

The unrest extended to the fans, with reports of Agama supporters being attacked during their celebrations, a situation that could have repercussions as the season progresses.

It remains unclear whether referee Makokova has filed a report regarding the incidents following the match, as he did not provide comments to the media.
