ZIMBABWE cricket team opening batsman Tino Mawoyo’s form for Mountaineers has shown that he has the potential to play a leading role for the national team in the shorter formats.

Previously considered a specialist Test batsman, Mawoyo has shown glimpses of the value he can add to the national Twenty20 and One Day International (ODIs) squads if given a chance.
Despite his magnificent record in Tests, Mawoyo has always been thought to be unsuitable for the shorter formats of the game with the selectors reluctant to give him a chance.
Critics have always pointed towards his inability to score at a quicker rate at the top of the order, but this season he has proved his critics wrong with some stellar performances for Mountaineers.
The Mutare-born 26-year-old, who has only featured in three ODIs for the national team, already has a century and a half ton in three innings in the Pro-50 competition.

Mawoyo currently sits in second position on the top scorers chats behind Vusi Sibanda with 212 runs from three matches with a high score of an unbeaten 120.
In the Twenty20s, Mawoyo has been in equally devastating form with 135 runs from three innings including a top score of 74 runs from just 50 deliveries at the weekend.
