HIGHLANDERS have confirmed their participation in the Bulawayo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund match against Premiership football club Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on a yet to be announced date.

The Bulawayo giants are taking part in the city council’s invitational match a few months after the city fathers pulled a plug on reviewing the 20% levy charged on Bosso for their home league matches at Emagumeni.
Highlanders had approached the city council with a view to the rates being lowered, but their request was turned down by the local authority. Chairman Peter Dube yesterday confirmed their participation in the charity match.
“It is a Bulawayo thing and we are definitely participating. We are still awaiting confirmation from the city council on the dates,” Dube said. The Bulawayo City Council’s senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu said they were due to meet late yesterday to decide on the dates.
The city council wrote to the two clubs on October 29 inviting them to participate in the match in December, but the Drumstick Special Boys sought the municipality to bring the game to this weekend to allow their boys to rest early for the festive season.
