JOHANNESBURG – The recent appointment of former German national team defender Stefan Reuter as FC Augsburg sporting director could further complicate the football career of Zimbabwean striker Knowledge Musona.

Report by KickOff.com

Reuter (46) was appointed to succeed Jürgen Rollmann in a bid to save the struggling Bundesliga team from being relegated.

“I’m looking forward to this new challenge at FC Augsburg and I’m confident we can attain our set targets,” Reuter told the FC Augsburg website.

Augsburg finished the first half of the League tied on nine points together with basement side Greuer Fürth and will have a lot of work to do if they are to avoid relegation.

Musona will also have the challenge of convincing the new coach that he has the ability to play a key role in the revival of the club.

After scoring 15 League goals for Kaizer Chiefs during the 2010-2011 season, Musona failed to rediscover the same form when he moved to German side 1899 Hoffenheim in July 2011.

The striker was later loaned to FC Augsburg, where he is still to score a goal in 737 minutes of action.

As things stand, Musona no longer commands a regular place in the team’s starting line-up and it remains unclear whether or not he will be in Reuter’s future plans when the Bundesliga resumes on January 19.

Previously, Musona has been linked with a move to either Orlando Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns.

But while unofficial reports now suggest Musona may also be on Chiefs’ radar, the player’s agent – Pro Sport International director Mike Makaab – has already indicated to KickOff.com that the Zimbabwean international will remain in Germany.
