JOHANNESBURG — African champions Zambia have named their 23-man squad ahead of their title defence with five South Africa-based players included in that team while 19 players who were part of the victorious team last year have been retained.

Free State Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene along with his club teammate Noah Chivuta, Golden Arrows defender Joseph Musonda, Davies Nkausu of SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates striker Collins Mbesuma are the PSL stars named in the squad by Herve Renard.

Former BidVest Wits defender Kampamba Chintu — who has been without a club since June last year — ex-AmaZulu keeper Kalililo Kakonje, SuperSport striker Clifford Mulenga and Evans Kangwa are the four players that were part of the squad last year that are not in the squad for this year’s tournament.

Chipolopolo will play Norway in Ndola on Saturday and Namibia in Nelspruit next week before they kick-off their title defence in Group C against Ethiopia in a group that also has Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
