JOHANNESBURG — Former Bafana Bafana assistant manager Phil Setshedi has been sentenced to three years in prison for match-fixing.

Setshedi, a former Orlando Pirates captain, was convicted on December 7 after being found guilty of an attempt to unduly and improperly influence the outcome of one of the 2011 Vodacom League playoff matches in Cape Town.

He was arrested on June 8 2011 and court proceedings commenced at Bellville Commercial Crimes Court in November 2011.

The accused was convicted of contravening Section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, Act 12 of 2004. Setshedi was sentenced yesterday and it is not clear at this stage whether he will appeal the sentence.
