HIGHLANDERS assistant coach Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu says yesterday’s victory over PremierSoccer league newcomers Tripple B at Barbourfields Stadium was a confidence booster for Bosso after losing four games during the pre-season period.

Returning Highlanders striker Njabulo “Tshiki” Ncube grabbed a brace inside the first half for Bosso to ensure the win against a disjointed Tripple B side.

“After a long time, we have managed to score goals. We played good football in the first half, but we slackened in the second.

“For long we have been creating goals but not scoring, but we are now creating and scoring. That is a plus for us. The win is a confidence booster for the boys since we have lost three or so matches in pre-season,” Ndlovu said.

Highlanders lost 2-0 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns at BF, 2-1 to revived Division One outfit Gwanda Ramblers in Gwanda, 2-1 in the first leg of the Bob 89 Super Cup to Dynamos and the most embarrassing was the 4-0 drubbing at the hands DeMbare in the second leg at Rufaro Stadium last week.

Tripple B head coach Friday Phiri said he was happy with his players who picked up their game in the second half after the introduction of Philip Makanje.

“For Highlanders it was regaining lost pride after Sunday’s defeat. We have just been trying new combinations, but the boys are moving in the right direction. We had two players who just came in today (yesterday). We are just trying to build up a winning mentality,” Phiri said.

Former Dynamos players Timire Mamvura and Norman Maroto were part of the game yesterday with the former playing the last 35 minutes while the latter played 55 minutes before he was pulled out in the second half.
