ZIMBABWE’S leading junior golfer Stuart Krog headlines a strong contingent of six local junior golfers which has been selected for next month’s prestigious Curro South African Junior International Championship in Cape Town, South Africa.

Krog attracted interest from top United States universities after a superb display at the Orange Bowl International Golf Championships in the US in December.
The St John’s College student will be joined by fellow top junior golfers Jack Allard, Mbongeni Maphosa, Kieran Vincent, Travis Smith and Justin Kirsten while Melford Sibanda is a non-travelling reserve. The Curro South African Junior Championships, formerly known as the Kenako World Junior Series will be played at Langebaan Golf Estate from March 3-6.
The tournament is a 54-hole individual stroke play over three days and will welcome over 120 junior players from all over the world.
Last year Germany had a contingent of over 30 players.

Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association president Brian Maphosa said the country had been allocated 10 slots for the tournament, but will only be sending six players due to financial limitations.
“Zimbabwe has been allocated slots for 10 players, but due to funding limitations, the association is sending six players. The association has, however, left the other four spots to be taken up by any interested players who can meet the tournament’s qualifying requirements.
“To be eligible a player can be either a boy or girl, born in 1995 or later. They must also be members of a golf club affiliated to a national golf federation recognised by the World Junior Golf Tournament Series. The players must at the time of submitting an entry have a handicap of two or better for boys and handicap five or better for girls,” he said.
