KALISTO Pasuwa has emerged as the top candidate to replace Ian Gorowa as Warriors coach after the Zifa Board accepted the former Mamelodi Sundowns’ boss resignation yesterday.

Pasuwa, who has led Dynamos to three consecutive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League titles, is set to be confirmed as the Under-23 coach, which Zifa wants to concentrate on following the senior men’s team failure to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations group stages in June.
Pasuwa is set to replace Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu, who is now the team manager at South Africa champions Sundowns.
In a communiqué last night after the board meeting which was attended by all but three board members in Harare, Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said: “The board met and accepted the resignation of Ian Gorowa as Warriors coach in line with recommendations of the High Performance Technical Committee which had recommended that he be relieved of his duties.
“There was also a discussion on the appointment of members of the technical team for the Under-13, 15, 17, 20, 23 men’s and women’s teams. The names were discussed, but have not been communicated with the concerned individuals and once that is done, the names will be made public.”

He added: “The Under-23 team is going to participate in the Cosafa Senior Men’s Challenge. The same team will take part in the 2016 Rio Olympic qualifiers and the 2015 All-Africa Games.
The Under-23 side will get a number of friendlies as part of their preparations for these games.
“This is the team that we expect to participate in the 2016 African Nations Championships (Chan), the Africa Cup of Nations 2017 qualifiers and the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.”
While there was no particular discussion on the senior men’s coach, Zifa’s thrust to focus on the Under-23 side puts Pasuwa firmly in the driving seat to rise to the top post.
The Under-20 side is likely to be mentored by Jairos Tapera, while Rosemary Mugadza is also likely to remain in charge of the Mighty Warriors.
Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda, women football boss Mirriam Sibanda and Tawengwa Hara, the board member for competitions, gave excuses.
Zifa is this morning expected to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts and Culture.
