HIPPO VALLEY and Carguards emerged winners in the men and women’s 2015 Harare Hockey Independence Cup at Sunrise Sports Club on Saturday.

Hippo Valley beat Hockey Club 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in regulation time in the final while Carguards beat Scorpions 9-4 in the women’s finals.
Harare Hockey Board secretary Mandla Matare said the tournament was a success as many clubs participated. “It was an eventful day as all clubs converged at the venue on Saturday and competition was tough with each team looking to claim the coveted Independence trophy,” Matare said.
“Hippo proved once again to be a force to be reckoned with in the indoor hockey league. They faced tough opposition including an underdogs Huskies second team but their skill and resolve saw them triumph.”
