POLICE have described this year’s Easter holidays as the bloodiest, with 42 people killed in separate road accidents, almost a 100 % rise in fatalities from the 22 recorded last year.

Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said 10 people were killed yesterday bringing the total to 42 up from 32 recorded on April 1.
The deaths have almost doubled compared to the 2017 statistics, which saw 22 people being killed in road carnage.
Police said, this year, 246 people were injured in 338 recorded accidents during the Easter holiday.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police continues to urge motorists to services their cars before embarking on long journeys. Drivers should always avoid speeding and overtaking in front of oncoming vehicles, as we continue to lose precious lives in the roads,” Nyathi said in a statement.

Out of the 338 road accidents 25 were fatal, compared to last year were 217 road accidents took place and 13 were fatal.
In one of the accidents that took place a Honda Fit on the Harare-Masvingo Road overtook in front of an oncoming Toyata Wish carrying nine passengers.
Three people died on the spot and the injured passengers were taken to Chivhu General Hospital.
