Commissioner-General of police Augustine Chihuri on Wednesday took to the podium and broke into a religious tune before giving a speech full of Bible verses, deviating from political statements he usually churns out at most occasions.
“Isn’t this a wonderful day that the Lord has made,” he said before singing: “You are wonderful Jehovah, Wonderful Jehovah . . .” sang Chihuri as he officiated at the handover and send-off ceremony for the contingent which is travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the seventh edition of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) games.
In appreciating the generosity of the corporate world who supported the cause, Chihuri went on to quote Acts 20:35: “There is greater blessing in giving than in receiving,” and Luke 6:38: “Give and it shall be given unto you”
As he completed his speech, the Commissioner-General again went Biblical, quoting Genesis 27:3: “Go well.
Your journey has the Lord’s approval. So take your arrows and your bow and go out to the field and get meat for me.”
A total of 156 officers are set to compete for honours at the games to take place in the DRC, starting next week on Monday.
