Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono has remained silent on the fire that gutted a warehouse at his poultry plot near Borrowdale Brooke on Sunday morning, destroying property with an estimated value of over $100 000.

The warehouse is said to have housed delicate hatchery equipment.

Yesterday, Gono, speaking through his personal assistant, Denise Naicker, refused to comment on the matter. “The governor says he has nothing to say (about the matter),” Naicker said.

The fire, which was extinguished by the Fire Brigade after more than two hours, is suspected to have been accidental.

Surprisingly, Harare police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said: “I do not have the report. Maybe if you check with me tomorrow, I may have. I only read about that in the papers.”
