The High Court Tuesday reserved judgment on President Robert Mugabe’s bid to extend the dates to call for by-elections in three constituencies after hearing arguments from Mugabe’s lawyers and the lawyers representing the three MPs.

After hearing arguments from Mugabe’s lawyers and the lawyers representing the MPs, Judge President Justice George Chiweshe said he will deliver his ruling in the next 48 hours.

 

The Nkayi South, Lupane East and Bulilima East seats fell vacant following the expulsion from the Welshman Ncube led MDC of MPs Abednico Bhebhe, Norman Mpofu and Njabuliso Mguni MDC after they defected to the MDC led by Prime Minisrer Morgan Tsvangirai.

The trio, now independents, went to court to force Mugabe to call for the by-elections in their constituencies.

 

Mugabe had cited lack of financial capacity the reason why he could not call for the elections but he lost the case at the Supreme Court.
