ZANU PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Dickson Mafios has been accused of perpetuating political violence after allegedly disrupting a Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (Jomic) workshop on violence prevention last week.

Sources who attended the meeting held at Mazoe Hotel last Thursday said Mafios disrupted the workshop, saying it was bent on destroying the image of Zanu PF.
“A well-organised Jomic peace-building workshop was disrupted by Zanu PF provincial chairperson Dickson Mafios who said he was getting instructions from (Zanu PF secretary for administration) Didymus Mutasa,” sources said.
“It surprised everybody even those in Zanu PF who saw him loitering at the venue of the workshop. Before the workshop started, Mafios went mad attacking Jomic labelling it an imperialist organisation.”
The workshop was meant to discuss the code of conduct for political parties ahead of the impending elections so as to educate members of the public on measures to prevent violence by all parties and build a society free of fear, intimidation, hatred and patronage, among other issues.

Contacted for comment, Mafios rubbished the allegations, saying he did not take orders from Mutasa.
“That is nonsense. I do not disrupt Jomic meetings. I never said they should not continue with the meeting, but I objected to a certain agenda that was to be discussed. To say I disrupted the meeting is malicious and I do not act on Comrade Didymus Mutasa’s orders,” Mafios said.
“The agenda of the meeting was not consistent with what we expected, so I wanted to consult with my superiors on the issue.”
