The seat fell vacant following the death of party stalwart Aquillina Katsande who passed away in March after a long illness.

Mudyiwa, who in 2013 lost to Katsande in the party primaries ahead of the July 31 elections, won resoundingly after polling 7 564 votes, while Kumbirai Maguze garnered 906 votes.

Lovemore Svosve polled 640 votes, while Christopher Musa got 336 votes with Samuel Mlambo polling a paltry 237 votes.

Katsande died in hospital after a long illness and was buried at her rural home in Masenda Village.
