YOUR past is your past. In you, you hold great capacity to flick a fresh page today and to see new horizons. Why not “let what is past flow downstream?”, as the Japanese proverb says.

If you keep worrying, you will always be living in a defeated dark past. This action will definitely make you lose both your exciting present and your inspiring furture.

It’s no secret that because of life’s problems, you are sometimes made to go through the corridors of stress. Stress is normal, but can only be managed by serious ambition and a unique eye salve.

One of the simple definitions of stress, is “the feeling we have when under pressure”. Today’s instalment aims to energise and re-boost your batteries, as a stress overcomer, so you can shine brighter and illuminate your life’s dark corners.

There is a story of a psychology professor, who walked into an auditorium filled with students. So she held up a glass of water. The students expected the common question: Was the glass half empty or half full? However, something different was in store. She asked how heavy the glass of water she was holding was. The young audience naturally gave varied answers.

From the above you pick a powerful life lesson: that people will always see things differently. Thus, let not that which seems to be bothering you hold you down. Because this just your mere perspective.

Don’t be gutted down by your misfortunes. Problems don’t live forever.

After the students were done, the professor gave her view.

“From my perspective, the absolute weight of this glass doesn’t matter. It all depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute or two, it’s light. If I hold it for an hour straight, it’s weight might make my arm ache a little,” she said.

“If I hold it for a day straight, my arm will cramp up and feel completely numb and paralysed, forcing me to drop the glass to the floor. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it feels for me.

“Your stress and worries in life are very much like the glass of water. Think about them for a while, nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and you begin to ache a little. Think about them all day long, and you will feel completely numb and paralysed — incapable of doing anything else until you drop them.”

The weight of the glass doesn’t matter

The weight of the glass you are carrying doesn’t matter. What you go through doesn’t even matter at all. The suffering and pain that you are being subjected to will not kill you. Remember, you are a soldier, who is being trained in a rugged way in order to prepare for future battles.

Battles will surely come by, but they must find you prepared. Sometimes you go through life’s unbearables. Don’t run away. Don’t try to disappear from your training camp. You are a soldier.

One general once stood up and said to a commanding officer of troops: “I am presenting to you these men, make soldiers out of them.”

Life is designed to produce a soldier out of you. When the temperature is too high in the oven, is it meant to destroy the bread being baked? Absolutely not.

Don’t hold the glass too long

This is a common category, where many people fall under, you included. You are blessed if you are not in this category. Many people hold on to their problems for far too long. Don’t do that. Never go for such a primitive and disastrous idea. Count your blessings, not your sorrows.

You have much to rejoice about rather than to worry about. Ever heard about Nick Vujicic? Listen to the story you will never complain again.

Nick Vujicic: No arms, no legs, no worries!

Nick Vujicic is a 34-year-old Australian preacher and a motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterised by the absence of all four limbs (legs and arms). This is a true story of faith in action.

Nick has no arms and no legs, but has a life that cascades a delight of hope to the weary and hopeless. In that condition, he can type, swim and walk.

If he isn’t worried about his condition, then what justification do you have to worry about yours? Why consume yourself? There is nothing to worry about.

What’s the solution?

It’s simple. Just hold your glass for a minute only. Never carry your problems to your grave. Remember, whatever your mind conceives it materialises, so don’t hold them for too long.

You may fall as you will be learning how to walk.

But the best thing to do is to rise, dust yourself and try again. Your falling must not give you your final destination. Claw back and get back in your track again. Be blessed.
