A LANDS Ministry official has been slapped with a one year jail sentence after he was convicted of criminal abuse of office by Chinhoyi magistrate Ngoni Nduna for demanding $100 to facilitate a deal.

It was the State case that Traders Mshawatu (42), who is based in Zvimba district, solicited for money from Dudzayi Israel Chirongoma in exchange of a favourable report relating to a gold mine claim.
The mining claim was within Chirongoma’s plot at number 26 Newlands Farm in Banket.
The court was told Mshawatu pestered Chirongoma to pay $100 prompting him to approach CID officers in Chinhoyi, who set a trap and caught the accused with a marked note at OK Zimbabwe supermarket in Chinhoyi.
Mshawatu will serve 10 months in prison after two months were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar crime. Tinashe Dzvore prosecuted
