ORGANISERS of the annual Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) have announced a new format that will be used during next year’s edition, where a variety of activities would be conducted as a build-up to the 2017 edition to be held under the theme Next Level.

Speaking at a Press conference in Harare yesterday, festival organisers said they wanted to expand by increasing the number of activities and carrying out large scale concerts outside the festival week.
Hifa executive director Maria Wilson said: “What you are about to see is expansion. We will create more platforms for artists and their development . . . For the next 18 months, we will be building up to the next Hifa as you know it will be in 2017.” Festival founder and artistic director Manuel Bagorro said they were trying to involve more people in the festival.
“We have decided to embark on a mission of developing local artistes in different ways. So we have introduced a new programming set that is going to sustain the festival in 2017,” Bagorro said.

He said new programming would include new areas of Hifa Presents, Hifa Play, Hifa Engage, Hifa Events and Amigos. Bagorro said the new programming would see Hifa venturing into sport as a way of fusing art and sport.
