Sorotina Mharira, of Rujeko high-density suburb, pleaded guilty to the charges of biting Mercy Gafu, when she appeared before magistrate, Jabulani Mzinyathi.

Mharira will not do time in jail after three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the other six were set aside on condition she performed 210 hours of community service at Dombotombo Housing offices.

The court heard that on the day in question, Mharira was selling tomatoes at Masamvu Supermarket, while Gafu, who works at Marondera Municipality, was on duty.

Acting on municipal powers, Gafu seized Mharira’s tomatoes together with a basket, as she was selling her products at an undesignated place.

The court heard, Gafu then went to the hospital and was treated after paying $10, which she was also claiming from Mharira.

In passing sentence, the magistrate warned Mharira and other vendors to abide by council by-laws.
