POLICE yesterday dismissed as a hoax a Whatsapp message claiming that a bus carrying students from Bonda Mission had crashed along the Harare-Mutare Road killing about 70 students on the spot.

The message, which went viral on social media networks around midday, claimed that the accident happened between Macheke and Headlands.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to advise the nation that a Whatsapp message which is circulating and claiming that fifty nine (59) – seventy (70) Bonda Mission students have perished in a fatal road traffic accident between Macheke and Headlands along Harare-Mutare Road is false,” national police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said.
Nyathi described the source of the false report as “irresponsible and alarmist”.
