AIR Zimbabwe yesterday played down a mid-air mishap which happened on Sunday where raw effluent reportedly gushed out of its Johanneburg-bound plane’s toilet bowl and spilled into the cabin.

In a statement, AirZim spokesperson Shingai Dhliwayo described the incident as “a minor fault”, saying “water overflowed from the handwash basin and overflowed onto the lavatory floor and subsequently into the cabin aisle during descent into Johannesburg”.

“The middle right lavatory handwash basin overflowed as the water faucet was left running. As a result, water overflowed from the handwash basin, spilled onto the lavatory floor and subsequently into the cabin aisle during descent into Johannesburg. The handwash basin water is clean, sanitised and odourless. Eventually, the on-board engineer isolated the water supply to the affected lavatory system,” Dhliwayo said.

“Air Zimbabwe is committed to offering an excellent service to its customers.
