THE Zanu PF national youth executive has endorsed the suspension of Bulawayo provincial youth chairperson, Khumbulani Mpofu and administration secretary Cecilia Verenga.

The two youth leaders were recently suspended by fellow provincial executive members over allegations of “participating in the skirmishes at the National Heroes’ Acre and the burning of T-shirts with Unity Accord inscriptions on September 19, 2015, during the burial of the late national hero, Sikhanyiso Ndlovu”.

Zanu PF central committee member, Butholezwe Ngwenya confirmed the suspensions at the party’s Bulawayo headquarters at Davis Hall, yesterday.

“The national executive sat down after receiving a petition and made a resolution. Khumbulani Mpofu and Cecilia Verenga remain suspended until their case is heard by the national disciplinary committee,” Ngwenya said. “With immediate effect, Anna Mokgohloa, the deputy secretary for environment and tourism, has been appointed as acting chairperson.

“No youth league activities in this province will take place without Anna being involved. Everything starts with Anna”.

Both Mpofu and Verenga did not attend the meeting.

The latest purge comes shortly after Mpofu and his sympathisers last week hit back and suspended Davis Mhambi (secretary for finance), Boniface Mutsure (secretary for commissariat) and Maqhawe Sibanda (transport and welfare), accusing the trio of fanning factionalism.

Mpofu stands accused of being a stumbling block towards mobilising for the 2018 elections.

Mpofu and Verenga are also accused of unilaterally declaring the late youth member, Tumelo Msimanga, a provincial hero without consulting fellow members.
