A FEMALE activist, Rutendo Kawadza, is still admitted at a private hospital since Monday where she is nursing injuries sustained when she was allegedly assaulted by police officers during a demonstration in Harare.

Kawadza, a member of the Zimbabwe Activists Alliance (ZAA), told NewsDay yesterday that she sustained injuries in the back and on her knee and was waiting for an X-ray and scan to be conducted to ascertain the level of the injuries.
According to ZAA, up to six activists have so far received medical attention after the Monday beatings during a demonstration held in solidarity with the Rural Teachers’ Association. ZAA founder and national co-ordinator Tendayi Lynnette Mudehwe said the association would approach the courts to challenge police action.
“I was also beaten and I have been attended to. We want the State to explain why we were beaten when the demonstration was legal and peaceful,” she said.
