THE 15 Ethiopians arrested early this month and charged with illegal entry into the country yesterday told Chinhoyi magistrate Brenda Dhliwayo they were forced to commit the offence because of poverty and political unrest in the East Africa nation.

Dhliwayo sentenced them to a wholly suspended two-month jail term each and ordered their immediate deportation.

She said in coming up with the sentence, the court had considered their lengthy stay in remand prison, as the State sought an Amharic interpreter to facilitate the trial.
