In a bizarre incident that has left people in Wedza shell-shocked, villagers stumbled upon the head and leg of a 50-year-old man among reeds on the banks of Ruzawi River in a suspected case of crocodile devourment.

Police in Wedza are currently investigating the incident in which the remains of Peter Chikavhanga, of Chikavhanga village, under Chief Ruzane in Wedza, were discovered by other villagers after he had gone missing for a day. However, some villagers were not convinced the widower was devoured by a crocodile as they suspected that he could have been killed for ritual purposes.
Efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East Province police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo yesterday were fruitless.
According to sources, on February 4 at around 6:30pm, Chikavhanga, who lived alone, went to Ruzawi River reportedly to take a bath. It is suspected that while at the river he was attacked by a crocodile which mauled him to death.

His disappearance was noticed by fellow villagers after discovering that his cattle had remained in the kraal the whole day. A search was conducted and villagers stumbled upon his head, leg and a hand among the reeds at the banks of the river.
His clothes were later found on a rock on the river bed. A report was made at Mukamba Police Station.
The remains were then taken for burial after the post-mortem was waived by provincial magistrate Milton Serima.
