VETERAN broadcaster and actor Lawrence Simbarashe who had fallen on hard times is set for another shot at acting after he was cast as an actor in a local film titled Mapeto that is set to be premiered in Harare soon.

The actor, who was experiencing difficult times before a charity initiative spearheaded by Kuwadzana East Legislator Nelson Chamisa came to his rescue, will be playing the role of Uncle Joe, a wealthy businessman.
The 80-minute long film’s producer Marlon Murape confirmed Bhonzo’s return to the screen and said the actor was currently rehearsing for his role.
“We felt that as is the tradition that prominent actors who were vibrant in the 1980s are now quiet, we should bring him on board. He is the one who approached us through one Kutsiwa of the Gringo drama fame. Bhonzo has been looking for a way to get back into acting and is currently doing rehearsals for his role,” Murape said.

The main character, Nigel Mapeto, played by Richard Matimba (Uncle Ritchie) is a dubious actor who enjoys committing adultery and siphoning church funds.
Actor Wellington Nyoni told NewsDay that Bhonzo was doing rehearsals at his St Mary’s home in Chitungwiza.
“Right now (yesterday) I am at Mudhara Bhonzo’s residence where he is rehearsing his part. All is well and it is interesting to work along the veteran actor,” he said.
The film written by Lloyd Shumbayaonda will premiere on April 23 and will be on DVD.
The name Bhonzo evokes a string of humorous memories. Famed for his lead role in the television series Bhonzo Nechikwata, the actor, broadcaster and advertiser is ranked among the most talented artistes of his era.
