Emma Ali (28), of Matanda village in Murewa, pleaded guilty to charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm on her husband, Langton Kuronga.

Marondera magistrate Jabulani Mzinyathi sentenced Ali to 12 months in prison before four months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining eight months were wholly suspended on condition that she would perform 280 hours of community service at St Columbus Primary School in Macheke.

According to court papers, on February 6 this year at around 4pm at Makunde Farm, Ali sent her husband to purchase $1 worth of pork from the nearby shops.

Kuronga proceeded to the shops only to return at around 6pm visibly drunk and without the relish.

This did not go well with the accused, leading to an argument. After failing to stand the argument, Kuronga went out of the kitchen and fell asleep.

While he was in deep slumber outside the house, Ali boiled about a litre of cooking oil, which she poured on the chest of her husband.
