A HARARE man, Gerald Chapendama, was yesterday granted a protection order against his wife when he approached the Civil Court seeking compensation for medical bills he paid after being battered by his wife.

Chapendama told the court his wife, Esnart Mapisa, was in the habit of harassing and physically abusing him to the extent that he had made various police reports against her.
“She beats me more often and of late, she has been sending her boyfriend and other people whom I don’t know to stalk me,” he said.
Chapendama also told the court he wanted Mapisa to compensate him for the money he had been using to pay for medication each time she attacked him.

He also sought payment for wasted time, saying Mapisa recently chucked him out of her house.
“She has thrown my clothes out of her house, which she inherited from her late husband. At some point, she assaulted me with a fan belt,” Chapendama said.
In response, Mapisa dismissed Chapendama’s claims, saying he was actually the one who was in the habit of assaulting her, but would quickly run to make false reports to the police.
“He is the one who is in the habit of beating me and then goes around claiming that I am abusive,” she said, adding she was not opposed to the granting of the order.
Presiding magistrate Barbara Mateko granted the protection order in Chapendama’s favour.
