Sibusiso and Sifiso Ndlovu, aged nine and five, respectively, are however, still to raise the full amount to make the trip possible, according to their father, Lewis Ndlovu.

The two protégés are set to be in the United States from July 7 to 17, once they secure sponsorship.

Ndlovu, who is the co-founder of Drums for Peace, told NewsDay that drumming was like an inborn gift for his sons.

He said he decided to enter them into the competition after realising they were likely to make a great impression given their age and skill.

“The competition is open to their age group and travelling to Hollywood would be great. Our vision is that when we get there, we should be able to harness sponsorship in terms of musical instruments that will benefit other kids at the youth centre back home,” he said.

Ndlovu said drumming runs in their blood and he was relishing the opportunity of playing drums alongside his boys.

“As a parent, this is an opportunity of a lifetime and they might get scholarships through that and I will help them shape their lives,” he said.

Ndlovu said they were seeking sponsorship to cover their transport and accommodation from well-wishers and corporates.
