The NewsDay lead story on Mphoko’s continued hotel stay ignited a heated conversation on the government’s abuse of taxpayers’money and failure to prioritise critical areas like economic recovery.
Netizens took to social to air their views and by midday, NewsDay’s hashtag on Twitter #mphoko550- in reference to the Vice-President’s 550 days in five-star luxury- was trending locally
Mphoko, who was sworn two years ago, is spending about $560 a day, which has so far translated to an estimated $310 000.
This comes as the country’s economy spirals towards total collapse with government failing to meet the civil service wage bill, among many other symptoms of failure by the Zanu PF government.
