The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (Zetdc) has taken the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (Caaz) to the High Court after the latter allegedly failed to settle a $385 955,56 electricity bill.

The power distribution utility issued summons against the country’s aviation authority in June this year under case number HC6703/16 claiming unsettled electricity bill.
“Plaintiff (Zetdc) herein claims; payment of the sum of $385 955, 56, owed by the defendant (Caaz) to the plaintiff as at May 31, 2016 in respect of power/electricity supplied by the plaintiff to the defendant at the latter’s special request and instance and which amount the defendant fails, neglects or refuses to pay despite demand,” Zetdc said in its declaration filed together with the summons.
The electricity distributing firm said it was also demanding payment of interest at the prescribed rate, calculated from June 1, 2016, to date of full payment including costs of suit.

“By reason of the said failure, neglect or refusal to pay the above sum/amount, the defendant is obliged to pay the same with interest thereon,” Zetdc said. “The defendant is indebted/liable to the plaintiff as at 31st May 2016 in the said amount being charges of power/electricity supplied by the plaintiff to the defendant at the latter’s special request and instance and which amount the defendant fails, neglects or refuses to pay despite demand.”
On July 29, Caaz entered an appearance to defend notice, indicating it was prepared to challenge the claim, as and when the matter takes off in court.
The aviation authority is represented by C Kuhuni Attorneys, while Zetdc is represented by Chihambakwe, Mutizwa and Partners.
