Municipal police officers roped in members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and raided undesignated vending sites in the city.
Council spokesperson, Michael Chideme yesterday said the operation would continue today.
“We have started the exercise of removing vendors from the streets. We started with the CBD today [yesterday]. The exercise is going to spread into the suburbs, to remove all vendors trading food until the typhoid outbreak is contained,” he said.
Harare has been struggling to contain waterborne diseases since the 2008 cholera outbreak that left 4 000 people dead.
