HOME affairs minister Ignatius Chombo has instructed the human resources director in his ministry to improve the quality of uniforms used by immigration officials.

Chombo said he was not happy with the quality of uniforms being handed out to officers in the immigration department.
“Please look into the uniform of officers at the Department of Immigration. I want the quality improved. I want them to look presentable.
“I also want the quality of the fabric improved not that old fabric which will embarrass us, we don’t want that, get the best linen so that their uniforms are made from that,” Chombo instructed the senior official.
There were also reports of widespread victimisation and abuse at the Immigration department with moral, now at an all-time low but Chombo professed ignorance. Chombo, however, promised to act on any senior officials if evidence of abuse was availed.

“If there are senior members in the immigration department abusing their positions we will kick them out without fear or favour,” the Home Affairs minister said.
