THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has dismissed as false social media messages claiming there was mass recruitment of soldiers in several parts of the country.

Social media has been awash with messages of mass recruitment of soldiers to beef up ahead of the potentially explosive 2018 harmonised elections.

In a statement yesterday, ZNA director of public relations, Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore said: “The ZNA wishes to emphasise that there is no such recruitment taking place. The criminal elements masquerading as recruitment agents are in no way representing the ZNA or any of its members,” he said.

Makotore said no person should be made to pay for expressing interest to serve in the ZNA and that prospective soldiers must ask for letters of authorisation and identity documents whenever they see suspicious persons claiming to be army recruiting personnel.
