Two Harare men appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with fraud and possession of articles for criminal use after they allegedly bought groceries from unsuspecting Domboshava shop owners using fake currency.

Kudzai Munyukwa (26) and Tinashe Mwatiba (21) were remanded in custody by magistrate Tilda Mazhande to today for bail application.
It is the State’s case that on June 9 this year, Munyukwa, Mwatiba and their three alleged accomplices, who are still at large, connived to defraud different complainants.
It is alleged Munyukwa approached one complainant, who owns a tuckshop in Chirombo village under Chief Chinamhora, and tendered a $50 fake note to buy groceries worth $7and received $43 as change before walking away with the goods.
The State alleged the complainant later discovered that the $50 note was fake, but the suspects sped off in a getaway Honda Fit car.

On the same day , Munyukwa and Mwatiba allegedly pounced at Denda business centre, and bought beer worth $6 using a counterfeit $50 note, received change and again fled after the scam was discovered.
It is alleged the public gave chase and apprehended them before they got to the vehicle, while their three accomplices sped off towards Harare-Shamva Road.
The duo was taken to Chinamhora Police Station, where they were searched and found in possession of $150 worth of counterfeit $50 notes, a $20 fake note and two $5 counterfeit bond notes.
