OUTSPOKEN Zanu PF member and former Mutare councillor Cecilia Gambe stole the limelight at a residents’ meeting at the weekend when she attacked the local authority for poor service delivery.

Gambe hijacked the proceedings and continued speaking after her allocated time had lapsed.
Two weeks ago she also caused a stir after she allegedly blocked municipal police officers from closing homes of Sakubva residents with outstanding bills.
“People are living in squalid conditions [and] council is not prioritising the living conditions of some people in Sakubva. We cannot continue to pay for sewer as nothing is being done to repair our pipes,’’ Gambe said as she defied calls for her to end her presentation.
“It is not the duty of municipal police to come and close our homes. The duty of the police is to maintain order at the terminus market. If you want your money we can agree on a payment plan through debt collectors, that is what we know.”

Speaking at the same event, Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhamarare said: “I know my sister Cecelia Gambe chased our municipal police in Sakubva, but as council, we [are] always eager to improve on service delivery’’.
United Mutare Residents and Ratepayers’ Trust director Sebastian Bakare urged the local authority to address concerns raised by the residents.
