The Ministry of Health and Child Care will next week conduct free cervical cancer screening for Midlands State University (MSU) staff and students, the institution said in a statement.

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women and accounts for one third of all cancer cases in the country. “The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare team will be conducting free cervical cancer screening for all women on the 9th of March 2018 at the main campus clinic,” MSU said in a statement.
“Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable malignancies that affect women and also one of the leading causes of death among women.
“Routine cancer screening helps to detect precancerous changes in the cervix early enough for them to be treated successfully.”
In January, government partnered China to screen and treat 1 000 women for cervical cancer at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

According to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe, statistics from the National Cancer Registry shows that 5 000 new cases of cervical cancer were recorded every year.
