IT has been a long time coming, with promises that had started sounding false, but sungura ace Alick Macheso (pictured) has finally unveiled June 8 as the date when his much-awaited album will be launched.

Macheso, who had starved his fans for a lengthy period, will make it a triple celebration in atonement as the launch will incorporate the celebration of his 50th birthday and commemoration of Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s 20th anniversary.
The musician’s publicist, Tich Makahamadze, told NewsDay Life & Style that they were launching the album in “a special way”.
“We thought of making it big because we will be celebrating Ochestra Mberikwazvo’s 20th anniversary and Macheso’s 50th birthday. We have begun preparations for the big day and it is going to be a memorable one,” he said.
Macheso was born on June 10, 1968.

Since last year Macheso had kept his fans guessing on when the next album will hit the streets.
The musician, well known for his bass guitar playing skills, formed Orchestra Mberikwazvo about two decades ago after a stint with Khiama Boys which was fronted by his mentor, Nicholas Zakaria.
He has released a string of albums including Magariro, Simbaradzo , Zvinoda Kutendwa and Tsoka Dzerwendo which sealed his fate as the king of sungura in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, Macheso will tonight perform at Hapizen Plaza in Hatfield before travelling to Chegutu for another show at Gatsi Sports Bar tomorrow. On Sunday he returns to Harare for a wrap up show at Zebra Village in Mbare.
