A TEENAGE Bulawayo girl has taken her mother and stepfather to court for physically abusing her over a dead parrot.

Janette Fenicia Oliveira Fernandes West (38) and her husband Lance Andrew (39) pleaded guilty to the charge when they appeared before magistrate Tinashe Tashaya on Thursday last week.
They were each sentenced to 30 days in jail, with an option to pay a $30 fine.
The court heard that sometime in May this year, the couple accused the 17-year-old girl of killing the bird and attacked her with a crowbar.
The girl was later rushed to hospital, leading to the couple’s arrest.
