Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednego Ncube, told Southern Eye yesterday that property worth thousands of dollars was recovered following Mkandla and Ncube’s arrest.

“On September 3, police based in Cowdray Park received a tip-off from members of the public involving the two, Alick and Ncube who were then arrested and the third accomplice is still at large. Investigations are still ongoing. The two admitted to committing 12 counts of theft and unlawful entry. Property worth thousands of dollars was recovered and is at CID Nkulumane,” he said.

Ncube said all break-ins were committed around Bulawayo and during the raid, police recovered an Afrox 9kg gas cylinder, small tool box, machete, drum, blue mountain bicycle, blankets, radio, car battery, baby blankets, brown wallet, food warmer, small and big axes and many other items.

Ncube said cases of unlawful entry were on the increase in Bulawayo.

“We would like to urge members of the public to ensure that their properties are secured with burglar bars and also encourage them to practise a neighbour’s keeper — if one is travelling he/she should inform his/her neighbours so they keep a close watch on the house. I would like to thank members of the public for playing a pivotal role in dealing with such cases through tip-offs. Their participation is very much appreciated,” he said.
