A SERIAL Mozambican thief who had terrorised car owners in Mutare was last Friday jailed to an effective 41 months.

Fanuel Antonio (22), who was facing four counts of theft, was sentenced by magistrate Nyasha Kuture, who suspended 10 months on condition that he does not commit the same offence over the next five years.

Another three months were suspended on condition he returned the stolen goods and money.

Antonio will now save an effective three years and five months.

According to prosecutor John Munyurwa on July 15, 2018, Antonio broke into Job Murandu’s car which was parked at Mutare Girls High School, stole a cellphone and $50.

Antonio was later arrested at Sakubva Market after a tip off. The cellphone was recovered. In a separate matter, Antonio broke into Precious Shumba’s car on August 28 along Mutare’s Main Street and stole a laptop and $700.
