In an interview with Southern Eye, EMA Bulawayo provincial manager Decent Ndlovu said Makokoba had improved in cleanliness, though there were residents who still dump litter at undesignated points.

“In Makokoba, people have improved in terms of their homes; they are clean, but they still practise illegal dumping,” he said.

“They do not want to reveal those responsible, and we will look for those who are illegally dumping litter at night.

“We have been informed that there are some people who are paid to collect the rubbish at night, using push carts. We will investigate on that and measures will be taken.”

Ndlovu said the city centre was clean, but residents were encouraged to put litter in bins.

He said they had engaged communities in the various residential areas to help clean up their surroundings.

Ndlovu said residents are taking pictures of litter bugs and sending them to the agency, which will charge the culprits.
