GWERU regional magistrate Pathekile Msipa last Friday acquitted MDC Alliance Chiwundura legislator, Livingstone Chimina, who was being accused of inciting violence in the run-up to last year’s elections.

In acquitting Chimina, Msipa ruled that the State had failed to provide enough evidence to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The ruling came after an application for discharge was made by Chimina’s lawyer, Brian Dube, who indicated that the State had failed to prove a prima facie case against his client.

The State did not oppose the application leading to the acquittal of the MDC MP.

However, Chimina will on Monday appear in court for continuation of trial for two other charges of assault and participating in violence.
