CHITUNGWIZA magistrate Winfielder Tiatara on Tuesday granted $100 bail to Chitungwiza North legislator Godfrey Sithole (MDC Alliance), who is facing charges of public violence.

As part of the bail conditions, Tiatara ordered Sithole to surrender his passport and report every Friday at Makoni Police Station.

The trial date has been set for March 14.

Sithole, who is represented by Alec Muchadehama, is being charged with inciting public violence during the January 14-16 stayaway. He pleaded not guilty when he first appeared in court on Saturday.

Prosecutor Edmond Ndambakuwa had opposed the bail application, arguing that the MP was a flight risk.
