A MESSENGER of court on Tuesday attached Makonde Rural District Council (RDC) property to recover over $10 000 in outstanding salaries for its current and former workers.
The attached property includes vehicles and a grader.
Makonde RDC chairman Simbarashe Ziyambi confirmed the development.
“I can confirm that it is an issue we are resolving amicably. The amount in dispute is $10 000 in outstanding salaries. We had paid the bulk of it and the amount is too little for such action to go through the courts. We are working modalities of sorting out the issue to recover the property before it is auctioned,” Ziyambi said.
‘Our principals within Local Government ministry are aware of the issue and we have briefed them of our action and plans. It is now sorted out.”

Many local authorities owe their workers huge sums of money in outstanding salaries due to dwindling revenue inflows as most residents are struggling to pay rates.
Makonde RDC has not been spared with the majority of farms in the rich agricultural area, which are owned mostly by politicians, failing to pay development rates.
