TWO Kadoma artisanal miners died last week while four others were injured after an explosive went off while they were inside a disused mineshaft in Mazowe panning for gold.
The deceased were identified as Andrew Urombo (36) and Terence Muzavazi (33), while Ezra Elshana was critically injured during the explosion and is batting for life at Concession Hospital.
Mashonaland Central acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the accident.
“I can confirm a fatal incident that occurred at Mazowe Mine, where two illegal gold miners died on the spot after a blast. One of the injured is currently admitted at Concession hospital while the remaining three are in a stable condition,” he said.
Reports are that some artisanal miners blew their explosives without alerting the Kadoma miners.
