A 51-YEAR-OLD Harare man was yesterday sentenced to a mandatory 10 years imprisonment for possession of ivory valued at US$706.

Tomuson Fradic Jamu will serve an effective nine years after magistrate Learnmore Mapiye suspended one year on condition of good behaviour.

The complainant was the State represented by Sergeant Banhu from CID Flora and Fauna Unit.

According to the State on November 1, 2019, detectives received information to the effect that Jamu was in possession of ivory at Avondale flea market.

Police carried out surveillance and observed Jamu carrying a satchel walking towards a car park.

They intercepted him and requested to search the satchel and recovered five pieces of unregistered ivory.
