THREE people, believed to be family members, died on the spot while six others were injured in a head-on collision which occurred on Tuesday evening at the 80km peg along the Chivhu-Harare Highway.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the accident.

He said names of the deceased will be released in due course after their next of kin have been informed.

The deceased were taken to Chivhu General Hospital for postmortem. The injured were admitted at Beatrice Hospital.

According to the police, it is suspected that a Toyota Granvia, which was travelling towards Harare with eight passengers, encroached into the lane of an oncoming haulage truck, resulting in a head-on collision. The driver of the Toyota Granvia and two passengers died on the spot.
